OA is Self-Supporting

Like other 12-step programs, OA has a long-standing tradition of being self-supporting at the group, intergroup, region and global levels. That means that member contributions, literature sales, and fellowship events are the primary sources of revenue for our worldwide fellowship.

Members are encouraged to make a donation at each meeting they attend. In Chicago and Evanston, the suggested donation is typically $2-3; the WSO recommends $5 per meeting. But remember, no one is ever turned away if they do not have the means to make a contribution. We give as we are able.

Most TPI groups have established virtual means for contributing to the group treasury during the pandemic. If you like, you can also make a direct donation by check to TPI. Both Region 5 and the World Service Office have online portals where you can make a donation via credit card. You’ll find the addresses and links below.

What Do Your Contributions “Do?”

All funds raised at OA events and meetings are used to “carry the message” of recovery to sufferers. At the meeting level, donations are typically used to pay rent for the meeting space and buy literature for members to purchase.
OA intergroups use contributions from its member groups to keep a meeting list, plan recovery-oriented events, help new meetings, and send representatives to regional and international business meetings and assemblies.

At the region and global level, funds are used to create, print and translate OA literature, create regional and global meeting lists, educate professionals in schools, mental health clinics, hospitals and treatment centers about OA recovery, and to do all the work necessary to keep our worldwide organization functioning.
